Modulo: A growing system for Pair Eyewear

Philip Gordon, VP of R&D and Manufacturing at Pair Eyewear, Irvine (California, USA), decided to go with SCHNEIDER’s Modulo system to meet his challenges of an ongoing expansion. “When we were planning the new lab, we experienced 50% growth year over year. Therefore, we wanted an integrated system instead of individual machines,” he states.

In his interview he shares in-depth experiences from the very start of the modernization project. Today, he cannot imagine going back in time and managing a growing manufactory without automation and an intelligent system.

Today, we are less worried about the lab, because we have high yield, low breakage, such great uptime and time to recover. It gives us the ability to focus more on quality, the future of the product, how to keep delivering, and bringing joy to our customers.

In this video, Pair Eyewear shares real insights from the heart of the lens production laboratory in Irvine. They started this production facility in 2022. Their ongoing expansion gives them the capability to do about 7,500 jobs a day, with around 50 people working in two shifts. Their business is primarily driven online.

Partnering with SCHNEIDER gave them the opportunity to get everything they needed from one hand: machines, conveyors and the LMU system to monitor every production shift in real time. Philip Gordon reflects why only a trustworthy relationship can be the basis for a fruitful partnership.

To think about going back to time without automation is a nightmare. I think about it and it scares me a little bit. I would lose sleep over the the old way of doing things in labs before you had systems like this.
